[META] Request for comm feedback on new rule - Requiring political memes to be tagged

submitted by

I think political posts here are fine for the most part, but I've been thinking if I should add a rule that political posts should be tagged "[POLITICAL]" for those who have filtering enabled for their feed so they can enjoy BBT without worry of seeing political memes

What do you fishes think?

Yes please. I am so sick of hearing about American politics shoehorned into every community on Lemmy.

Accidentally made my comment as a reply to yours, moving it now

I'm ok with tagging.

However, how do you define what is political?

  • Is something political when it involves a public figure, like RFK jr?
  • How about a policy, like sending people to concentration camps?
  • Is war political?
  • Is a virus political?
  • Is being gay political?
  • Is it political when ultra wealthy people travel to a private island and rape children?
  • Is having any controversial opinion political?

Personally, I have a hard time keeping it straight. I can respect a request to tag a silly meme as political but how long till memes start getting reddit style taken down for things others claim is political for arbitrary reasons.
