I'm not too sure where the source data for this post originated, but here is the Wiki for US Ecoregions.

What is Deseret? turns out it is not a misspelling of desert on the map.

Mormon's fantasy empire.

Yeah, I looked it up and started to read about it but decided to has better things to do with my time than finish the article.

It was the name the original Mormon settlers in Utah gave to the area.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Deseret

Iirc Joeseph Smith claimed that was an ancient "Jaredite" word for honeybee.

The "Jaredites" were an imaginary people from Mesopotamia who left after the collapse of the tower of Babel in sealed boats and ended up in the good ol US of A.

Obviously there is no achaeological evidence for this group of people because Joeseph Smith made them up for his cult fanfic

Yup, I linked it in my reply.

What’s up with the Boston portion of Arkansas? What makes it different than Ozark?

Edit: Boston Mountains

This is just fanfic.

Maybe they should all be named after tribes

Yes, and also not use the name of the whole continent for itself like a spoiled bitch.

I like how sporadic state names are, then you get to the midwest and it's just like "fuck it, let's keep Iowa Wisconsin Michigan Illinois Ohio". Honorable mention for the Utah-Wyoming-Colorado-New Mexico section

The map renames the actual EPA ecoregions as if they were states. "Deseret" here is just the Central Basin and Range ecoregion, but that happens to line up pretty well with the proposed State of Deseret so the author seems to have just gone with it
