TL;DR: The idea that the rise of non-COVID infections since the pandemic is due to immune naivete from increase precautions is becoming disfavored. Instead, researchers are looking at whether there are long term effects on immune response after COVID.

Yeah, the research is increasingly pointing to actual dysregulation of T-cell responses and innate immunity after COVID infection, not just "immune debt" from isolation - some studies are showing persistent reduction in certain cytokine responses for months aftr recovery.

My n=1 study result suggests infections after COVID are much less frequent. Possibly because sick people are less inclined to go to work since the pandemic - at least in my industry.

I'm shocked that the convenient explanation for increased illness that just happened to be good for the economy turned out to not be well supported. Shocked.

Well, ain't that just fucking dandy? My wife and I are both home with COVID for the first time. Should have kept up with the latest shots. :(

Promise she got it from work. She has to go onto a massive campus and work in a call center. I was sick all the time in my call center days.

Still get it with the lateats shots just not as bad. As far a vaccines go it's a bit shit but the best we have. I had mine updated last month

Are you saying you got it, or just that it's possible? I'm wondering how much worse off, if at all, we would be if we had skipped the first 3 shots.

I got it for the first time last month. Now a month later I'm still dealing with persistent post nasal drip causing a cough. Not sure what I can do other than take Claritin which helps reduces the coughing.

I just got over the viral part where I tested negative; my doctor then gave me steroids and antibiotics to deal with secondary infections

Damn I call it my forever cough but also dealing with post nasal drip from both the first (2023) and second times (Aug 2025) I had covid.
