Germany's 5,000 heat deaths: What the numbers reveal

The 5,120 heat-related deaths in Germany in 2026 through June 28, published by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), is therefore an estimate. But that does not mean the figure is pulled out of thin air. “It is based on a statistical correlation,” says Alexandra Schneider, a meteorologist, epidemiologist and deputy director of the Institute of Epidemiology at Helmholtz Munich.

PSA (again): More Bad Air Quality until at least Thursday, likely due to wildfires

There are three large wildfires in the interior that may be contributing, but I’m not too sure why it’s suddenly so bad for the week. Usually you’d see that the wind is blowing all the smoke south and west towards us, but I don’t see anything like that on the map. Probably just the good ol’ heat dome. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Route 16 Tacoma narrows bridge closed!!!

Looks like a suicidal person might have been in crisis and either jumped, shot himself or something. There’s multiple police agencies with snipers ready. The bridge is closed and there’s a ton of cars diverted to the street exit before the bridge. Some of the people are going back to Kitsap or to the ferrys which basically will take an additional hours. Or you can go to Olympia and go around.

Is citizenship renunciation a way to truly escape Jury Duty?

Most Anglosphere countries (US, UK, CA, NZ, AU) have Jury Duty as people are selected via the electoral roll randomly, and if you’re a permanent resident or visa holder in those countries: that does not concern you as Jury Duty only affects citizens. Once you receive a summons, there’s no turning back unless you completely renounce your passport as a dual citizen (you can’t be stateless, since you must hold a second nationality before renunciation).

Currently watching an episode of Good Luck Charlie. PJ says that a girl he’s dating told him that her mom used to know his dad. PJ tells his parents this and Bob says she was the last girl he dated before Amy. Amy gets upset for absolutely no accountable reason. He hasn’t been talking to this woman or even thinking about her, much less doing anything romantic with her. How dare he have dated other girls before Amy. How dare he not have just waited around for her his whole life. How dare the women he dated not retroactively disappear from existence. To be fair this is Amy Duncan, the irrational drama queen. Sidenote, I’m pretty sure the actress is MAGA and currently does conservative kids shows.
